The blue wool project to be tasted received the support of the Uruguayan president

The initiative will allow the players of the Uruguayan Soccer Team to wear high-quality national Merino wool suits.

With the presence of the President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the Vice President, Beatríz Argimón, the Light Blue Wool to Qatar project was presented at Expo Prado 2022, an initiative that represents an excellent opportunity to promote Uruguay as an exporter of wool -a differentiated and high-value natural product-, as well as a benchmark in fashion and sustainable design.

Like the Uruguayan Soccer Team, Uruguayan wool competes with the best in the world, which is why it was decided that the players should wear suits made with the highest quality Uruguayan Merino wool during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The project has the purpose of promoting Uruguayan wool through the image of the Uruguayan Soccer Team and that it be recognized as a natural, renewable, recyclable product, produced in a sustainable way, with certified processes and products, friendly to the environment. environment and animal welfare.

During this presentation, the Uruguayan president highlighted that wool is a very important product due to its history in the country and that leading designers from around the world choose this Uruguayan product.

“I am here for the love of sheep production,” said Lacalle, while expressing admiration for the idea of uniting two emblems of the country such as soccer and the production of the sheep chain.

“That soccer takes part of our being to the World Cup is beautiful. There is no Uruguayan to whom you give half a meter and he does not shine in what he does, ”he said in reference to soccer, wool and national designers.

The manager of the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat (SUL), Romeo Volonté, was in charge of moderating the presentation of the project. “We believe that wool production is ideal for transmitting what sustainable production is, which is 100% natural. This project is committed to telling the history of Uruguayan soccer and its parallelism with that of wool in Uruguay. The story of a small country used to competing against the best”, he said.

The president of the Uruguayan Football Association added that the team will be proud to wear these suits at the World Cup in Qatar and transmit to the world the synergy with the Uruguayan productive sector.

In this context, the institute for the promotion of investment, exports and country image, Uruguay XXI, on behalf of the Uruguay Wools brand, which promotes wool in the world, presented the Uruguayan president with garments woven with merino wool.

The use of this product in Qatar -a state with a very hot climate- will demonstrate that it offers optimal thermal insulation compared to other natural and synthetic fibers, so it can be used both in summer and winter. Superfine Merino wool, less than 18 microns for these suits, makes it possible to produce lightweight Super 130’s fabrics, 260 grams per meter, which adapt to the weather conditions of Qatar, with excellent comfort on the skin and following the trend of international fashion. The “Lana Celeste a Catar” project is a joint effort involving the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat (SUL), the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), the Regional Innovation Consortium for Ultrafine Wool of Uruguay (CRILU), the Uruguayan hairdressing industry represented in the Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), the Secretary of Sports and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), with the support of Uruguay XXI, which works to promote worldwide of the sectoral brand Uruguay Wools.
